Health and Safety Policy and Procedures

Everything starts with your policy. This sets out how you intend to ensure the health and safety of employees, contractors and members of the public. Once the policy has been developed, you will need a safe system of work or safe procedures that are relevant to your business activities and can be communicated to your workforce.

We will work with you to understand your business needs and develop a bespoke policy that is relevant and robust. Procedures can be developed and reviewed to ensure that they remain appropriate and sufficient. The policy will be shared with your employees through a variety of media.

Strategic Health and Safety Reviews

Whether your organisation is large or small, it is important to review your health and safety arrangements on a regular basis. This will help identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement. As independent health and safety experts, we provide impartial advice and feedback that leads to a better understanding of compliance and helps facilitate the necessary improvements in your workplace.

Our team has the professional skills and experience to conduct strategic health and safety reviews and implement improvement programmes with precision and effectiveness. After conducting desktop reviews and meeting with key stakeholders, our consultants will analyse and present our findings and recommendations, including a prioritised action plan. Strategic health and safety reviews are conducted by our more experienced consultants, who are chartered members of IOSH and members of RICS.

The Retained Health and Safety Competent Person

We can act as your retained health and safety competent person, ensuring that you meet your legal obligations in relation to health and safety in the workplace. As your appointed health and safety advisor, our aim is not only to reassure stakeholders that the organisation meets legal standards but also to support the implementation of systems that improve operational efficiency, increase productivity and protect reputation.

This service includes:

• A telephone and email helpdesk for compliance queries
• A virtual health and safety platform for document storage, training and communication
• Regular news and regulatory updates
• Use of our CVs to demonstrate competence to enforcement authorities, insurers and clients, as well as for procurement purposes
• An annual review of your health and safety policy
• Access to a suite of useful forms and templates
• Optional health and safety inspections at your premises
• Optional assistance with SSIP accreditation

Our retained health and safety competent person services are offered for a minimum of 12 months. However, they can be offered for longer periods to ensure consistency.

Health and Safety Audits and Inspections

We provide a range of health and safety compliance audits and inspections. These are designed to identify compliance gaps and provide robust safety solutions. By conducting regular workplace inspections, we ensure that health, safety and environmental risks are being managed effectively.

Risk Assessment & Method Statement (RAMS)

Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) are some of the most used documents in workplace health and safety, particularly in construction-related activities. These safe systems of work are used to identify and control risks on-site. They also inform those involved how to protect themselves and others. We can review your RAMS, advise on their suitability for a particular activity, provide advice, and recommend improvements where necessary.

SSIP Support

Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) is a collaborative initiative designed to streamline health and safety standards in the construction industry and simplify the procurement process. These include SafeContractor, CHAS, Acclaim, Altius and Achilles. These standards can help companies streamline the prequalification process, ensure compliance with safety legislation and are a prerequisite for some purchasing organisations. Whether you have a new or existing business, obtaining and maintaining these schemes can be challenging at the best of times.

To help you get accredited, we work with you to establish a baseline for conformity and strengthen your compliance regime. We also provide useful guidance on the pitfalls of the acquisition and maintenance of multiple schemes.
